Let’s be honest, relaxed living doesn’t apply to the Haslams. And certainly not with their accident-prone dogs and animal rescues.
When a devastating event rocks Jack and Beth’s world, the joy of a new arrival is just what they need. But it doesn’t last long. A dark cloud looms, threatening the community and their beloved Le Palizac. Their future looks grim. Resolute, they join forces with friends to tackle the menace. Meanwhile, Beth is persuaded to navigate the perils of yoga classes – in French.
Laugh, shed tears, share fears, and join in the fun. Vive la France!
What readers think Fat Dogs and French Estates VI
Laughter, tears and adventure
This series of books is addictive. A true picture of French country life. If you ever wanted an idea of what it is like to move to a small French village, this is it. Simply cannot wait for the next one.
Another winner
I’ve read the entire Fat Dogs series, and this may be the best so far! It’s interesting, fun, informative, and touching. Highly recommend! I can’t wait for volume 7!
Follow Abby and Max on more adventures with Beth and Jack.
I just finished Book #6 and enjoyed it as much as I did books 1-5#. Beth has a wonderful way of inviting her readers into her home and her life and there is never a dull moment. In this book there was a laugh out loud moment with Max, one of their 2 Aussies. There are wonderful dinners with their French neighbors and I always feel that I am part of the group. Her series is more than a travel series. It’s becoming a part of their wonderful life in a small town in France. I highly suggest you read her series and join all of us who are now waiting for book #7 to come out.
Fantastic!
Another great read from Beth. Ups, downs, roundabouts. Laughter, tears and everything in between. Already anticipating Book 7!!
Wonderful
What a delight to return to Beth’s beautifully written books. Great descriptions so you feel you are with them on every walk, market, and celebration. Please not such a long wait for the next book.
Book 6. Well worth the wait as always.
Five star review for the next instalment from Beth. Read all of Beth’s books, love hearing of the daily adventures of Beth and Jack in their lovely house with all their fur family.
Beth is a wonderful writer and takes you into their world with their dear friends and neigbours. All the usual ups and down of life sometimes sad but also full of love and kindness.
Waiting for the next instalment Beth.
Another terrific read
What a joy it is to be back at Le Palizac with the lovely Beth, long-suffering Jack (is he becoming more mellow of late?) and their motley menagerie of furry and feathered critters!
Beth’s snapshots of life in rural France are a delight. Walks in the countryside; colourful characters and eccentric friends; scatty sis ‘Di’; accident-prone Max and adorable Aby; yoga and carol singing; they bring giggles galore, but there are moments of sadness, tears and anxiety too. Beth is a master storyteller and she navigates effortlessly through this kaleidoscope of different emotions with compassion and consummate ease.
I’d like to add huge congratulations to the amazing Maggie Raynor for her exceptional illustrations!
This is a thoroughly enjoyable read and another 5* winner from the kennels of Fat Dogs and French Estates, highly recommended!
Enchanting imagery, lively humour, local culture and poignant reflections on life. A perfect memoir!
Every release in the Fat Dogs series, I await with such excitement and anticipation and they never disappoint. From the first page I leaped back into Beth’s enchanting countryside imagery, her effortless humour, mouthwatering food descriptions and engagement with lively local characters. I loved the rural/cultural intrigue that’s seamlessly woven into each chapter and the historic details she entertainingly brings to life.
By now, in the series, Beth has already come to feel like a friend through her words, but even more so for me in this recent memoir. Alongside her usual inspiring resourcefulness and compassion and kindness, there feels a greater depth in her words. Her poignant reflections on life and even its passing brings such a closeness to the reader. Her balance of fun and pathos is perfect.
I adored this memoir and as ever, will now wait with everything crossed for hopefully the next.
